We all get it from time to time. What do you do? Hope that a shot of caffeine will power you through it? Try doing something else to pull yourself from that slump.
There are many ways to get out of that rut, such as looking for inspiration, taking a break, changing focus and even stopping all together. Below are some things that work for me.
Freshen up with Web Design Trends – Learning new trends is a great way to get you out of a rut. It also can prepare you if a certain style or technique is ever requested by a client.
Step away from the computer and use a pencil – I take a step back and organize my thoughts. Sketch or doodle and get yourself into a creative mind set. It may even help to go back a few steps and do some more brainstorming and wire framing.
Get Some Air – I find I have to do this daily just to let my brain go and wander.
Tutorials – I’m not a big fan of them but I find that I can still learn so many things from tutorials. Even learning a shortcut here or there can help you get inspired to jump back into your work.
Share – I like to discuss the projects I’m working on or something I’ve done recently that I’m proud of. It’s good to get opinions and see what others think.
Above are my go-to practices to get out of a design rut. If none of those seem to work I can always count on a nice cup of coffee.
