For the past two years my husband and I have been considering getting a puppy.  We both understand that getting a dog, or any pet, should only happen if you have the time, money and resources to ensure that the animal has a happy life.  We have been too busy over the past couple of years so we held off.

However, the wait is over!  Our life has slowed down a bit and some of our past commitments are over,so we felt that the time was now right.

During the past year we started researching different breeds of dogs.  We brainstormed and discussed all of the things that we felt that we needed to consider:

  • our family likes big dogs
  • we have an 8 year old daughter
  • we love to walk
  • we both work full time
  • we often have the neighbours children over to play
  • we don't want the dog to sleep on our beds
  • we have two adult cats
  • we would prefer a dog that isn't a heavy shedder

After lots of reading and talking we decided on a Great Dane.

We picked up our black female Great Dane at the beginning of February.  We named her Gladys.

We met Gladys' Mom and Dad a couple of times and all of the other members of her pack.  We met the breeder, Danielle, a couple of times as well.  Danielle is educated, honest and hard working.  Her dogs are well cared for, healthy, happy, well behaved and loved.
They are lovely dogs.

Gladys is cute, affectionate and ... a puppy, so she is keeping us busy.  She already walks along side us quite well (although she hasn't enjoyed the cold temperatures) and goes to the door to let us know that she has to go to the bathroom.

We are thrilled that Gladys is now a part of our family!
