Microsoft's annual "Build" conference is taking place as I type this blog post (April 29th to May 1st).  On the first day of the event, Microsoft unveiled their new mandate to bring Windows 10 to one billion devices.  This is a lofty goal, but definitely one that Microsoft is prepared to meet.

Not only is Microsoft targeting their own, typical platforms for Windows 10 (Windows PCs (desktops and laptops), Surface tablets, Windows Phones and XBOX game consoles) but they also promise to make porting iOS and Android software to their operating system a much easier process than was ever available in the past.

Now, as someone familiar with porting software between platforms and very much aware of the many tools available to build software for multiple platforms right from the start, I do take this announcement with a grain of salt.  However, I also think Microsoft has a chance to really shine in this effort. They are in need of a big win after the generally unappealing reaction they received with the introduction of Windows 8.  I've been a fan of Windows 8 from the start, but I know it's not for everyone.  So does Microsoft.  Windows 10 already feels much more like Windows 7 along with the nicer features Windows 8 brought to the version 6 builds of Windows.

Another interesting move that has the web development community abuzz is the fact that Microsoft has scrapped their age-old Internet Explorer web browser for a fully rewritten masterpiece named "Edge".  Check out the following video for more information.

Do you have any thoughts on Microsoft's massive push of Windows 10 and its various enhancements and refinements?  Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
