Blogging has been increasing in popularity for years as businesses begin to realize the benefits of blogging. Since 1999, the number of blogs has grown from a few thousand to over 150 million.
What is a blog?
"A blog is a personal journal published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the most recent post appears first. Blogs are usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often are themed on a single subject." [1]
What are the benefits of blogging for your business? Below are a few ideas:
- It's quick and easy. Blogging software is usually easy to use. You just need to type out your thoughts, link to any resources, add any sources, and post your blog online. Usually it's a matter of pushing a few buttons once you have down what you want to say.
- It really helps search engines, such as Google, recognize that you have regular, changing, original content which is one of the biggest requirements to improve your search engine placement.
- It's a great way to share information with prospects and clients about new things going on in your company. For example a special or promo, a new hire, an article of interest, a policy change, or a holiday or relocation message.
- Helps build a following of users who will subscribe to your blog via RSS (Really Simple Syndication) or bookmark the page to read what's new. This is a great way to stay top of mind. Click the orange RSS graphic at the bottom of any REM blog post if you want to subscribe to our blog .

RTS Companies Inc. required assistance in designing and developing unique web sites for their 9 sub-companies. The main site needed to link easily to the other sites and be simple for customers to navigate through. With multiple brands and multiple products, REM Web Solutions developed an Online Catalogue System that allowed RTS staff to easily upload images and information. RTS also needed a way for their customers to download images and files. Having an online FTP site, which is accessible from the RTS web site, allows RTS customers to have a professional, easy, and personal way to access the files they need.
