Somewhat like @CharlieSheen, I’ve experienced a lot of #Winning moments here at REM Web Solutions. I experience great joy when I’m tasked with making two, distinctly separate software systems talk to one another. Whether that is through the use of RESTful API web services or building a file-sharing mechanism between two servers (say, through FTP), I simply enjoy it. Let me tell you about one such #Winning moment now.
As an aside, I still consider myself new to the ColdFusion developer community (3 years and counting), but I’ve been developing software for the web for well over a decade now and ColdFusion has become one of my fortes. One reason for that is that ColdFusion makes communicating with systems much more streamlined than other web development platforms. Sure, you can build super-slick algorithms in other languages, such as PHP and ASP.NET’s C#, but I find that ColdFusion’s dead-simple approach to web development removes the need to build a lot of extra layers to get the job done.
Recently, I was tasked with connecting a client website with Twitter’s HTTP API. Thanks in part to the fact that both the ColdFusion community is constantly sharing their collective work online (through sites like StackOverflow.com) and that ColdFusion is built on Java and allows instantiating native Java objects for access within ColdFusion scripts, the task wasn’t daunting at all. In fact, it was relatively easy!
