The web design/development world has grown to be a very large industry. That are a lot of choices out there and many customers are often confused about how to decide what they need.
There are many people out there who know how to build a great website. They are typically called a web developer. They know how to take a pre-built template or designs that were done by a web designer. They create the inner workings of a website. They are competent in programming languages to offer extra functionality. They develop the user interface and are typically left brained (logical thinkers). Many developers are not as artistic or creative as a designer. I went to school for programming. I think over 17 years in the industry I have a good eye for what looks good online, but, I am not a designer. I draw stick people and rely on the designers to make it look great and do what it is intended to do from a marketing perspective.
Our team at REM, has professional designers that went to school for design. They focus on the look and feel of a website. They understand who your target audience is and what you are trying to accomplish with that audience to make it an engaging experience. They know how to choose colours and flow information properly. They create great user experiences and are right brained (creative and imaginative) thinkers.
Having both of the pieces to the puzzle at REM (web designer and web developers) is what makes for a successful project.
