Web Graphic Designer

REM is looking for a graphic designer that is ready to stand out from her/his peers as they launch multiple new websites per year with their name attached to the design!

• An eye for effective user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) techniques as they relate to front end web designs.

• An understanding of when 2 pixels to the left is exactly what the design needs to be perfect.

• Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite with emphasis on Photoshop and Illustrator.

• A basic understanding of HTML5 and CSS with a general idea of the principles of constructing a web page using those elements efficiently.

• An ability to talk confidently to team members, managers and customers.

• An ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

• A post-secondary education in a related design discipline is a must, and all applicants must provide a portfolio with their applications.

Responsibilities

• Own dozens of client web design projects through the entire design life cycle.

  • Guide customers through creative briefings and help put their vision to words and design.

  • Collaborate with the design team and build a creative concept that aligns with the budget and the scope using appropriate tools and assets.

  • Demonstrate and promote your design to the customer, accept feedback and refine the vision.

  • Collect design signoffs and begin carving concept files into basic HTML & CSS templates.

  • Hand over the carved template pages to the development department for integration with REM's proprietary content management system.

  • Implement page content on behalf of the customer using the content management system.

• Occasionally generate logos, graphics, illustrations and other supporting assets for clients.

• Source, crop, resize, optimize, colour correct and implement appropriate stock assets into designs.

• Learn and master the existing content management system to better inform your design capabilities.

• Learn and master the existing project flow, and project management tools to keep your projects on track.

• Perform other functions and responsibilities as assigned from time to time.

Bonus Skills

• Working knowledge of the benefits of SEO and how it applies to web development as well as a keen interest in learning more.

• Working knowledge of accessibility concerns in design, specifically through guidelines set by the WCAG and Ontario's AODA.

• Strong writing skills.
